Caf Hill To Close For Construction Of Escalator

Within recent years, Biola has made significant changes to the campus such as the parking structure, the Talbot building, and the fireplace. Biola’s newest project will be a 385 foot escalator on the hill near the baseball field also known as “Caf Hill.”

Biola officials have announced that it will cost approximately two-hundred thousand dollars to install the escalator and that construction on the project will begin in September of 2013.

STUDENTS HAVE MIXED EMOTIONS ABOUT THE PROJECT

Many Biola students feel that the escalator will benefit them as well as those who visit the campus.

“I think it’s really worth it,” junior Caitlin Helms said. “I know grandparents always come to this school because they love their students here. Even some professors can’t make it up this hill. It’s sad to see the grandparents walking up the hill and they just gradually fall backwards and tumble down. I know they called like seven ambulances on Grandparents’ Day just because of that one incident.”

However, there are those at Biola who feel that the new Caf Hill escalator may not be worth the investment.

“He [the Biola Eagle] thinks it’s good, but he also thinks that students should be able to fly around like he does so we wouldn’t have to spend money on an escalator,” Joey Aguirre said.

STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO WALK ALTERNATIVE ROUTE DURING CONSTRUCTION

Caf Hill is a major area of traffic and since it will be blocked off during the construction, Biola officials have mapped out a temporary detour that will offer students safe passage to their classes.
