Biola University’s parking problems seem to have no end in sight. Over its years at the La Mirada campus, Biola has added seven parking lots for students and faculty, including a new parking structure. During this expansion, parking has remained at an affordable rate to patrons. However, this will not be the case in the near future.

The latest solution is to add seven floors to the existing five-story parking structure, resulting in a total of twelve stories. This will add an additional 6,384 available parking spots to Biola’s La Mirada campus, an anonymous source said. Construction to add the new levels is scheduled to begin in April. In an effort to appeal to a wide variety of automobile users, it is reported that approximately half of the new parking spots will be dedicated to handicap, motorbike, and RV parking. Administrators expect this addition to satisfy students’ intrinsic need for parking for at least the next 18 years. The new seven stories will be termed “Lot-S-X-5″ to differentiate it from the original five stories known as “Lot-S”.

STUDENT REACTIONS ARE OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE

“I think that would be awesome,” sophomore Intercultural Studies major David Geis said. He believes that the addition “would [help him] grow in patience.”

Junior JJ Carroll, co-creator and co-star of the web series Javid, was excited by the idea and said, “It would give us more room to shoot Javid episodes.”

Sophomore Danny Noble stated, “The idea is ill, dawg. More room for skating, y’know?”

The student-run web series Five Stories Up, which features up-and-coming student musicians in YouTube videos, reports that it will remain true to its name and continue production on the fifth floor of the structure. The name for the Award-Winning series draws on the fact that all of their videos are filmed five stories up in the parking garage.

FUNDING REMAINS A BIG QUESTION MARK

To help fund the project, Biola University plans to rent out parking spots to local elderly populations on Bingo nights.

“I think it is a great idea to serve the community,” 78-year old La Mirada resident Ruth Barlow said. “Every Monday night when I go to play Bingo at the nearby high school, the parking lot is full. This parking structure will be a fantastic addition to the neighborhood.”

Additional funding will reportedly come from increased ticket prices for Biola baseball games, local student-run bake sales, and higher student parking fees. Biola’s finance department declined to comment when asked about how the project may affect tuition rates, although experts agree that rates will rise exponentially.
