Controversy Brewing? Joel Osteen to Speak at Torrey Conference

LA MIRADA - The Biola student body is in an uproar after it was leaked that Joel Osteen is set to be the keynote speaker at this year's Torrey Conference.

Osteen, who is perhaps infamous for his preaching of the "prosperity gospel," is slated to speak at the Wednesday morning session as well as two of the breakout sessions. Many students are not happy with the decision to let Osteen speak, as they believe he might not even know the Bible.

"I mean, he never attended Bible college or Seminary," said Sophomore Jessica Brooks, "yet here he is, speaking at a Bible college."

Other students are pleased with the decision. Freshman Mike Gregson said, "I like Mr. Osteen's message. It's really easy for me to understand, and it makes me not feel guilty about my family's substantial wealth."

Whether you agree with Osteen's message or not, you have to admit, his speaking here is sure to bring some publicity to Biola.
