Biolans Should Be Required To Wear Uniforms

When spring brings sun, sun brings skin. If modest is hottest, Biola students should be required to wear university-designed uniforms to aid in a distraction-free learning environment. The standard uniform would consist of red slacks for men, red skirts for women, a white, nicely-pressed dress shirt, and a bright red Biola tie for both men and women. As part of the student contract, the uniforms would be required to be worn at all times during the semester. Following the same principles as the Community Standards, this would include wearing the uniform for all off-campus activities as well. However, the university would provide students with alternative uniform options for when the standard uniform would not be suitable for certain activities such as swimming or exercising. These two other options would come with the standard uniform. Flex dollars would be able to be used to purchase accessories and additional clothing items to add to the basic look.

FUNDING TO COME FROM STUDENT FEE

With over 6,000 students, the new uniforms would come at a cost. However, an anonymous source cited that the cost would most likely come from the student fee. This stirred reaction from AS Senators as this would affect the budget for other AS activities such as clubs.

UNIFORMS TO PROVIDE UNITY FOR STUDENT BODY

A final note: If uniforms cost so much, is it worth it? To that I would argue yes. Not only will the new dress code eliminate distraction from wandering eyes, but it will provide a natural sense of community and demonstrate koinonia in its very essence.

“The uniforms we see on the outside should be a metaphor for the unity we have in the body of Christ,” said sophomore business major and rugby player Bill Glover.

Not only will the uniforms provide community but just imagine how much money and time can be saved by doing laundry in large batches? No longer would students have to worry about keeping track of their own clothes as they are all interchangeable.
