Electronica Emphasis Added To Biola’s Music Program

Biola University has been passionate about striving to represent worship from a diverse group of people. The latest implementation of this vision is the newly announced integration of EDM into the music department curriculum. It encompasses Biola’s drive for diversity in worship. Crowell Hall is undergoing an expansion to feature a DJ mix studio.

“Over time we have evolved from the organ to the piano, the guitar, the gospel choir and now we're beginning to explore electronica.” says student Terin Cargill. “We need to identify and relate with the current culture. We should be all things to all people.”

Music majors now can choose an emphasis in electronica with several concentrations such as house, dubstep, techno and trance. The music department hopes that students will take interest in the added emphasis, since it was originally met with some uncertainty from members of the President’s Circle.

“Our idea is that eventually we will start seeing electronica integrated within Chapel Programs. We hope that this new addition to our school will draw in more students to our campus” said Cargill.

Electronica classes will be featured in the 2014-2015 catalog.
