BiolaINSECURE Launches As A High-Speed, Wi-Fi Alternative

On Sept. 10, Biola University’s IT department launched a new campus wide Wi-Fi network called BiolaINSECURE. Although this new port has an extremely high-speed internet connection of approximately 54.8 megabytes per second, it has received some criticism for having increased vulnerability against viruses and spyware.
Biola’s IT department created BiolaINSECURE in response to student complaints concerning sluggish connections for downloads and online browsing. IT specialists recommend that students use BiolaINSECURE at their own risk, stressing that users are 80% more likely to inherit computer damaging malware than those who use the standard “BiolaSECURE.” Despite this, IT speculates that many students are willing to take the risk in order to utilize the new connection, which can reach speeds of up to five times faster than BiolaSECURE.
